'The National MS Centre provides comprehensive, safe, specialist clinical and integrated care plans for people with MS and other chronic neurological disorders.'
The medical, therapeutic and nursing personnel oversee all the stages of the care process that the person with MS can go through. The multidisciplinary approach to each case fits in with this comprehensive approach. The NMSC is also responding to the trend of providing more outpatient treatment and care, possibly in the living environment of the person with MS. The NMSC does after all provide a range of services designed to meet the specific care requirements of the patient in accommodation in Melsbroek, but also has a transmural MS team that can provide multidisciplinary consultations or care programmes on site in other general or university hospitals.
The NMSC is highly committed to providing a high-quality and safe environment in all its processes. A JCI accreditation process is followed to reinforce this approach. This process pays a lot of attention to the optimal management of clinical, care and supporting operational processes. Internal information, the flow of information and a proactive education and training of our employees also receive lots of attention. And so does the information and advice we provide to the patient: a therapy choice is the result of a multidisciplinary discussion that is then tailored to the patient and their family.
Special attention has been paid to scientific research ever since the NMSC's creation. We can now look back on over 20 years' clinical scientific research. Both our medical and therapeutic care policies are based on this fundamental and practical scientific research. The NMSC wants to use this to profile itself as an expertise centre even more in future.
The symptoms of MS vary greatly which is why a patient-focussed approach is very important. We therefore pay lots of attention to listening to the care requirements of every person with MS, and use this to determine what appropriate care plan we can provide. In extending and tailoring the care plan, efforts are also made to maintain autonomy for the person with MS and their participation in daily life - check here
