Collaboration between the NMSC and AZ Sint-Blasius in Dendermonde

The NMSC has been working to extend the Transmural Multiple Sclerosis concept since February 2015. The multidisciplinary team of doctors and therapists, i.e. the Transmural MS Team (TMST), are central to this care model. This team notes the medical, physical, psychological and social needs of a person with MS and looks together with them at which care programme is appropriate for their specific requests and requirements.

The transmural MS care concept is provided in the NMSC rooms, but aims to keep the care model as close as possible to the place where the person with MS lives. To achieve this, we have made contacts with university and general hospitals over the last eighteen months to deploy our specialist MS team there. Hence the name 'transmural'.

We have recently signed a collaborative agreement with AZ Sint-Blasius in Dendermonde as part of the extension of these transmural activities. Since 12 January 2017, the NMSC transmural MS team has been organising two-monthly multidisciplinary screenings on Thursdays, together with the neurologist and MS nurses from AZ Sint-Blasius.

People with MS can now attend 5 different places for a consultation with the TMS team: UZ Brussels, UZ Leuven, OLV Aalst, Imelda Hospital in Bonheiden, and from 2017 also AZ Sint-Blasius in Dendermonde.
