An important component of quality care is (patient) safety.
The National MS Centre focuses on these patient safety objectives:
correct patient identification: we want to ensure the right patient receives the right care. The identity of the patients is therefore verified several times.
effective communication: jobs and test results are written up and repeated to prevent misunderstandings in verbal communication.
safe administration of medication: we ensure that medication is prescribed, delivered and used correctly. Extra attention is paid to some drugs, because they hold more risk in the event of incorrect use.
hand hygiene: care providers with unhygienic hands can cause infections in patients. Our employees therefore systematically wash or disinfect their hands.
fall prevention: we do everything possible to prevent falls in the National MS Centre. If it appears upon admission that the patient has an increased risk of falling, then the multidisciplinary rehabilitation team initiates an adapted programme.
The National MS Centre is constantly developing a culture of patient safety. Every employee is encouraged to report unsafe situations and (near miss) incidents via a digitised reporting system. This gives us a clear picture of where improvements can be made. We see the reporting of an incident as a chance to improve. This all takes place within an open and respectful climate, which places the patient centrally.
